Ciaran McAuley - Tears [Digital Society Recordings]

Alex Wright Review: Northern Irish producer Ciaran McAuley has been delivering many great tracks all containing his signature melodic sound which is full of emotion and human feeling. 'Tears' is no different, playing on happy major themes with soft, metallic rolling basslines and acids. The filtered vocal chops are a nice unique touch as well as the mini-break and build up which arrives shortly after mixing the tune in. The trademark Ciaran McAuley strings are in the mix too with warm, unusual female vocal refrains to enhance the soundscape. The main pluck melody reminds me a bit of The Thrillseekers' 'Amber' but plays a less-haunting, more feel-good kind of sequence here and the climax section is full of power and finesse, making this a great all-rounder. Overall Mark: 9/10

Gerome - Exalted [Always Alive Recordings]

Alex Wright Review: Lebanese producer Gerome has made some beautiful trance over the last 12 months, this being of no exception with happy, feel-good melodies. Some nice filler FX and acid sweeps set the tone for a building, uplifting piece which rises through light clouds of soft pads and sensitive plucks which give way to the heavenly, euphoric chord progression alongside a positive, inspiring piano ostinato. The fifth chord in the progression hits the sweet spot for me with its gorgeous seventh added on top which is played by a gorgeous warm pad sound before the epic, climbing pluck melody rises out of the sound bed. The buildup and payoff is hands in the air and jumping around for sure and hits the right nerves to give that perfect shot of endorphins. Overall Mark: 9/10

Matt Eray & Nicolas Menicou - Dolphin [Beyond Belief Recordings]

Alex Wright Review: Polish producer Matt Eray teams up with Nicolas Menicou for another Beyond Belief Recordings release which oozes that classic, pure, uplifting sound that many of us love. Featuring nostalgic corded plucks, twinkling piano hits, and a nice clean guitar part, the vibe is kept very aquatic and suits its title well. The main theme is nice and variant with a great tone along with a cheeky vocal blur (which sounds very similar to Richard Bedford from the Above & Beyond track 'Thing Called Love'), making for a groovy and immersive track! Overall Mark: 8/10

Omniks - Looking For You [Silent Shore Records]

Alex Wright Review: Belarussian talent Omniks kicks off 2017 at ReOrder's Silent Shore Recordings with this strong, pacey trancer which features tightly mixed percussion, pulsing offbeat bass, and frantic, darting acids and leads which are enhanced during the breakdown when a catchy piano theme gives way to the full, majestic, arpeggiated sequence. Some great airy pads add much needed depth to the track's atmosphere and along with some suspensful, dramatic fills and FX which help carry things along into the soaring climax and outro section. Overall Mark: 7/10

Stella Project - Mysterious Euphoria (Mark Eworth Remix) [Mysterious Station]

Alex Wright Review: This rather low profile label occasionally churns out a nice track or two, usually by this act known as 'Stellar Project'. This time Mark Eworth's no-nonsense remix of 'Mysterious Euphoria' features tough, rolling drums and bass which are intertwined by growling acids, floaty yet authoritative FX, and hectic arpeggiated  lead sounds. The main melody is great and memorable with plenty of atmosphere and a nice breakbeat section too, adding suspense for the big build which ends in a stabby, industrial, tech drop which works brilliantly! Overall Mark: 7/10
